Acupuncture and Pain Management
Acupuncture, an ancient Chinese practice, has long been known for its ability to alleviate pain and promote healing. In fact, it is one of the most well documented alternatives to mainstream methods of pain control. Using medications such as Advil, Aleve, Motrin, Tylenol, and others, present minimal risks when used occasionally, but overuse of these drugs can damage the body by inducing stomach ulcers, liver conditions, and inhibited bone healing. Luckily, we have other options, one of them being Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is an invaluable tool for promoting true healing from injury, sprains, strains, bone breaks, and post-competition recovery. It is effective at promoting circulation, increasing mobility, reducing swelling, and healing muscle and tendons, bone breaks and spurs, and fascia tightness.
While pain effects the body, it can also take a real toll on our mental state. It can affect our mood, and our ability to be present in our lives. Acupuncture, and other healing modalities, can support the mental aspect of injury and help us move towards healing in a positive way.
How it works
Endorphin Release
One of the primary ways Acupuncture alleviates pain is by stimulating the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. These chemicals, which act similarly to opioids, help to reduce the perception of pain, and promote a sense of well-being.
Reduce Inflammation
Acupuncture has been shown to decrease inflammation by acting on proteins involved in the inflammatory response. Reduced inflammation can lead to less pain and swelling, particularly in conditions like arthritis.
Improved blood flow
By dilating blood vessels and enhancing blood flow to affected areas, Acupuncture helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues, promoting healing and pain reduction.
